New resources this Spring – check here for the changes

April brings a host of new resources for you to explore – don’t forget to register for your NHS OpenATHENS password to access these and more.

Core Collection

The National Core Collection has been adapted to include access to your favourite databases such as Medline, AMED, HMIC, Health Business Elite, BNI, CINAHL, EMBASE and PsycINFO but now also includes access to PsycARTICLES –  a database of full-text articles from journals published by the American Psychological Association and the Proquest Hospital Collection of over 4,500 full text journals.  All of these can be searched easily from a single search page using HDAS (Healthcare Databases Advanced Search) or if you prefer you can go to the publisher sites and use their search tools. Don’t forget that you have access to the full text of Cochrane systematic reviews via the Cochrane Library and access to the British National Formulary and NICE Guidelines which you can also download as an app.

Full Text Journals and Electronic Books

We have boosted our full text electronic journal collection by having access to the Lippincott Williams & Wilkins High Impact Collection which includes journals such as Spine, Circulation, Critical Care Medicine and Anesthesiology to name but a few.

I am pleased to announce that we have continued access to ClinicalKey which contains over 2000 electronic medical and surgical textbooks and over 600 full text Elsevier journal titles including The Lancet, Clinical Radiology, Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery Am and Injury.

A range of full text Oxford Textbooks and Handbooks are also available as well as access to the Royal Marsden Manual of Clinical Procedures and our individual subscriptions to journal articles which include the British Journal of Occupational Therapy and the New England Journal of Medicine.

Point-of-Care Tools

For members with a Poole or Royal Bournemouth NHS OpenATHENS login there is access to the point of care tool UpToDate to provide instant evidence-based answers to clinical questions.

For members with a Dorset Healthcare NHS OpenATHENS login there is now access to Dynamed a point of care tool suited to mental health and community services, providing instant access to a full knowledge base of evidence to support patient care.

Learning Aids

AnatomyTV is available as a 3D interactive anatomy and physiology learning tool and all members are welcome to register to use BMJ Learning.  This contains a range of modules about health related issues and provides an opportunity for you to check your understanding.

Printed Books 

We continue to purchase a range of printed books to broaden our library collection and have recently received new titles in the area of leadership and coaching, self-awareness, cardiology and exam revision books.  Take a look at the SWIMS catalogue to see what titles are available
