Website of the Month: Wessex Clinical Senate

This month actually sees two sites for the price of one, both launched as websites this week.

The Wessex Clinical Senate is a non-statutory body offering independent advice and providing a broad strategic overview of healthcare in the Wessex area.  Hosted by the Wessex Local Area Team of NHS England it brings together multi professional clinical leaders, other public sector and patient leaders to collaborate, challenge and drive forward improvements.

Topics relate to five national domains focussed upon improving outcomes for patients but also consider the work of the Wessex Strategic Clinical Networks which are focussed on large scale service change in the areas of cancer, cardiovascular; maternity, children, and young people and mental health, neurology and dementia.

You can request advice from the Senate if it meets their stated outcomes and is sponsored by a Commissioner.  The Senate decides how the request should be actioned i.e. if it should be forwarded to a clinical network, commissioner or other NHS England agency.  Other ways to get involved are by registering an interest to join the Senate Assembly.

Examples of some current topics being explored include the reconfiguration of vascular services, patient flow between acute providers and optimal configuration of maternity services.

To find out more about the work of the Wessex Clinical Senate and Strategic Clinical Networks to-date please see their annual report.
