We are open with new space to think and knowledge to act

After a busy period of re-modelling and moving libraries I am pleased to announce that both the main hub libraries at Poole and Royal Bournemouth Hospitals are now fully open and available for your use.

Poole Learning Resource Centre, Lloyd Adams Building, Poole Hospital

An amazing transformation has seen the library change to a self-contained ground floor  Learning Resource Centre  at Poole Hospital.  The modern space is light and airy with a selection of training rooms to facilitate individual silent study or collaborative group work.  24/7 access is available with a Trust ID badge – please ask staff for details.  This is now a great space in which to study, reflect and think with access to a wide range of knowledge resources.  The change of location has provided us with an opportunity to integrate the mental health collection that was previously housed at St Ann’s Hospital and make this collection more widely available. Friendly staff are on hand to assist in locating the best evidence to inform your decision making or to provide help on getting started with numerous e-learning programmes.  We are planning a major launch event in September with competitions and opportunities to try various resources. This will be followed with regular “bite size” sessions on particular aspects of information and digital literacy such as setting up a blog, accessing e-journals, research methodology, advanced searching techniques, using Clinicalkey for presentations, accessing UptoDate or  effective use of the Cochrane Library.

The Library, Education Centre, Royal Bournemouth Hospital

The Library at RBH has had a major face-lift.  In addition to the library computers we now have a dedicated library training room and the library also incorporates one of the Trust IT training rooms both of these spaces can be used by library members when not in use for training – this increases the number of PCS available from 11 to 22.  Access is available 24/7 using a Trust ID card and printing, copying and scanning  is now available outside of staffed hours.  For help with literature searches, locating documents and general enquiries the library staff are available between 8.30 and 5pm Monday to Friday.  Librarians are happy to work alongside individuals or teams, promoting electronic resources or assisting with finding the best evidence to support decision making.  Please contact us to arrange for a librarian to visit your team to discuss your resource requirements or to help you to get the most from your ATHENS account.

Prior to these changes we asked you what you would like to see in your new spaces.  We hope we have been able to accommodate most requests but are aware that we still have some work to do to continue making improvements.  We look forward to seeing you at either centre soon and would love to know what you think of the new spaces – please leave a reply.

  1. I am a new member of staff and having now settled into my role would like to be access learning resources – Whilst I did speak with a rep at my induction I would like the opportunity to meet with a member of staff so that I can review the learning resources available to me within the trust – is there a named person I could contact via telephone?

    • Hi

One of the Librarians will contact you. You can always call to speak to a member of library staff by ringing 01202 442101 or e-mailing library@poole.nhs.uk

We welcome the opportunity to show staff the full range of resources available to them.
