Website of the Month: Office for National Statistics

Librarians love being asked to find information – it’s our speciality, after all – but I have to admit that my heart sinks when anyone mentions ‘statistics’.  I think it all stems from my time as a trainee librarian on placement in the reference section of a public library many moons ago, when finding statistics meant trawling through dusty government tomes up in the storage stacks.

However, I really should be over all that now as no end of information is so easily available from the Office for National Statistics.  There’s a whole section on Health and Social Care and you can even search for local statistics by postcode.  As well health data you can find information on topics such as crime, housing and education, for example, in your chosen area.  Problem solved – simple!
