New vision for Midwifery

The  Midwifery 2020 : Delivering expectations final report is now available. 

Commissioned by the Chief Nurses of the regions of the UK the report identifies the changes needed to the way midwives work – their roles, responsibilities, training and development to achieve quality, costeffective maternity services.

Key messages cover:

  • Meeting women’s needs      
  • Midwifery workforce
  • Developing roles in public health and reducing inequalities
  • Measuring the contribution midwives make
  • Supporting midwives – development and education and role of maternity support workers
  • Maximising midwives’ influence
